Located in the Hamilton Heights section of Harlem, Three Lil’ Birds Preschool Collective is a Reggio Emilia inspired, mindfulness playgroup. We offer yoga, art, extensive time outdoors, along with academic empowerment. Reading and social-emotional learning are incorporated into all that we do. We are an inclusive collective – all learning capabilities are welcomed.
The Preschool Collective begins August 30th, 2021 to June 17th, 2022, from 8 am to 3pm. We host PART-TIME and FULL-TIME options, as well as AFTER SCHOOL (starting September 13th).
Part-timers get to participate in our Reggio Emilia-inspired morning routine. Full of sensory and independent exploration, our mornings highlight autonomy and creativity. Full-time kiddos get the entire mindful experience! Our day is packed with opportunities to learn about themselves and their environment through purposeful free-play. Enrichment opportunities are available throughout the day. Morning snack included, parents must provide lunch.

Mindfulness is backed by scientists to be a key foundational aspect of happiness. This new Preschool Collective is a secular mindfulness initiative: promoting compassion, self-awareness, and artistic expression. We host children’s classes, adults workshops, an in-person preschool playgroup and afterschool program.
The Collective’s Core Philosophy is that all children can possess stellar intellectual qualities through mindful art & play and learn independence at an early age. We believe children can become adults who emit: Inclusion, equanimity, compassion, sense of self, and acceptance. The Collective incorporates Reggio Emilia and some partial aspects of Montessori pedagogies.
How it works
Mindfulness is being in the awareness of the present moment with full attention and focus. At TLB, children learn to mind their breath, use mindful vocabulary when speaking to others, and learn to make choices that are conducive to a giving and caring deposition.
Reggio Emilia-based play is versatile and allows for flexibility in learning. The child is in complete control but takes hints from the teachers. We explore the tools we use in many ways, allowing the student to be the artist.
We become completely intune and can express ourselves vividly when we are allowed to explore the outdoors. When we are able to fully breathe, we tend to open our hearts and feel a higher sense of self-worth after a day of fresh air.
